Twitter Belt 2.0

Twitter Powered Conveyor Belt 2.0

 ̌

Here's the rundown:

  • Contest for pre-college students to win rad prizes
  • 20 runs with 5 prizes per run. 100 prizes total.
  • Tweeting @WellsFargo with #GetCollegeReady would move a Twitter connected conveyor belt
  • Student whose tweet caused prize to hit 1 of 5 milestones wins.

CHALLENGE – PRIZE SENSORS

The client wanted to give away prizes every 1/5th of the way down the belt. Doing so needed to include 2 things.

  1. A visual and audible cue that signified exactly when the milestone prize was won.
  2. The identification of exact tweet that did it.

SOLUTION — ARDUINO & INFRARED BREAK BEAM SENSORS

When an infrared beam was broken it would tell my sketch to flip a servo motor flag (visual cue) and activate a prize tune running on an mp3 shield (audible cue).  The arduino would also ping my python script over the serial monitor. The python script would instantly begin a new CSV file, which continued saving the stream of tweets coming in. The last tweet in each of the five CSV files were the winners of the corresponding milestone prizes.
